about

"Mamby Readymades" reimagines the life of everyday objects through a speculative lens. The concept is rooted in the idea of future archaeologists unearthing these ceramic relics, clueless about their original function and assigning meaning based on familiar objects from their own time. Each piece invites misinterpretation, celebrating the absurdity, ambiguity, and evolving life of the unknown.

Mandy Chan-Visser is a ceramicist from Scarborough (then Toronto) and now based out of Prince Edward County. She explores blurring the division between beauty and ugliness. Her work often challenges the conventional by rendering familiar, functional objects into the impractical and absurd.

After graduating from TMU with a Fine Arts degree in New Media, Mandy quickly pivoted into the marketing & advertising industry. However, she missed working with tangible mediums; along with the challenges & continuous learning that come with it. This led her to a fascination with one of the oldest art forms — pottery. She began her journey with classes at the Harbourfront Centre and progressed to developing her own practice in nurturing communities at Mud Urban Potters in Calgary, Beza Studio in New York and Clay with Me in Toronto.
